Spring Cleaning Closet Swap

I had a little thought pop into my head today as an image from visiting my friend Liz's house refreshed itself into my mind.

When we walked in through her back door she had one of those things that hangs on the back of your door and holds many pairs of shoes. "That would be great in each of the kids' bedrooms" I thought.

When I picked up a pair of shoes to put on the shoe rack in our laundry room for the umpteenth time (Liam, the 20 m.o., likes to get out lots of pairs to try walking around in the house in) I remembered Liz's door.

There's a handful of little odds and ends items I'd love right now, but don't really have in the budget to go out and buy all of them for.

That's when the spring cleaning idea hit. What do you all think about doing a Spring Cleaning Closet Swap? I think it would go something like this...

I'd host the main event right here. If you participate you'd link to the main post about instructions on how to participate on the swap. As well as a little avatar to put in your sidebar and/or post that you're participating in the swap. In your post you'd make a list of a few items that you'd really like to have right now (example, mine would include the shoe organizer, a globe, world map, map of the united states, etc)

After your post with your wish list you come back to my main post and sign the Mr. Linky I put in. So everyone who participates comes... looks at my post with all the blogs that were signed in to the Mr. Linky and clicks around to see if they have any of the stuff on the wishlists to get rid of.

This is stuff you'd get rid of for free - this is a swap, not a community yard sale.

The only question I'm pondering, perhaps you could help me decide. If you have the globe I want, do you send it to me on your dime or mine? I'm kind of thinking that if someone wants the new 4x6 gold picture frame I won at a bridal shower and will NEVER use, I'd be more then happy to just mail it to them! Get it out of here!

Now I know what some of you are thinking.. "Oh Katie, I'm busier than you. I have 17kids under the age of 10 and can't get to the post office."

You can either click 'n ship, one of my favorites, with the UsPs and print your postage and request a carrier pick up (oh yes, they come to you). Or do Stamps.com free trial for 4 weeks you can print free postage (media mail, first class, priority - you can do it all, and delivery confirmation!) and tape it onto your box with my globe in it - and request carrier pick up. Just remember to cancel the trial before the 4 weeks is up so you don't get charged. In fact - if you subscribe to my blog I'll do a reminder post to cancel once the Spring Cleaning Closet Swap is over.

So leave a comment and let me know what you think about this. Would you participate? And would you want items shipped to you or do you think you should pay for the shipping? (remember this means when you send out you pay for shipping or wait to receive the money before you ship an item)

Sounds like a good idea to me - for us local people it would be easier than those long distance. I'll have to brainstorm needs, but I'm planning on getting rid of things either way, so I'll definitely list those.

btw - your muffin tupperware is here. I'll try to remember to bring it to Sarah's birth.

Yes, yes, and yes! I'd pay for shipping the stuff to whoever. Do I get to participate from all the way over here? :)
