Green

I read about Green Smoothies over at Carole's blog. I already know multiple benefits of eating fresh, raw, green food. Her smoothies were a great idea of how to get some more greens in every day and Carole mentioned feeling more energetic - umm... more energy??? I'm SO in!

So the other day I tell Jake about it and we decided to do our own personal smoothie challenge of having a green smoothie each day for a month. We started yesterday. I had my laptop on the counter to follow Carole's instructions.

I tossed in a few handfuls of spinach, 1 1/2 c. coconut water, 1/2 c. water, a banana, a small amount of leftover frozen blackberries, and some frozen strawberries.

Well... I wasn't sure what I did wrong.. because my smoothie did not turn out green like Carole's... it was red! So I added some more spinach and another banana since it was runny...

Well.... I don't know what I was thinking.. because I should've predicted the final resulting color :

It was more brown than purple looking. So.. we had brown smoothies. This morning when we made them I figured out the offending ingredient was the blackberries because I didn't use any this morning the smoothies were very green!

Anyway, I'm not sure if it was coincidental... but yesterday I didn't find myself craving sweets like I always do! I mean, every single day I usually sneak in some little form of dessert... even if it's a handful of chocolate chips. I was never this way, but it started after Shiloh was born - and it's been impossible to stop! Until.. well, yesterday. I can't think of any other reason why except that maybe the delicious, naturally sweet smoothie just nixed it!

Anyone else want to join in on the Smoothie Challenge? Oh, and you can't even taste the spinach :-)

Mine often is a lovely brownish green as well. No worries! And I meant to tell you that you don't have to use coconut water after you left your comment on my blog about putting it on your shopping list.
Anyhow, be forewarned that if you do drink one/day you may experience some detox symptoms. I had really achy joints. Other people say that they have headaches or nausea. I don't really understand why, but ... it does go away.

I love green (and brown and red and purple and any color) smoothies :) And I love how the cravings basically disappear when you start drinking them. Yay for smoothies!

Cheers :)
