About boys

I grew up with 4 sisters. No brothers. I had some male cousins... but not the same.

When I was expecting my first, I was really hoping for a girl. After all I'm a girl, I understand girls, what would I do with a boy?

I'm so glad I had an ultrasound... it gave me some time to prepare. Because low and behold...... a boy was to be my first child. I remember being excited.. but panicky. What would I do with a boy? How do you raise those??? It was like going to a foreign country where you don't speak the language.

Well, being a mom to boys has been downright awesome. And here are a few of the tips I've learned along the way....

1) Exhaust them or be exhausted. Boys are bundles of energy. Be sure to live somewhere with a great yard and if you're going to buy them toys... buy ones that will wear them out!

2) Boys eat. A lot. I don't even want to know what it's going to be like when they're teenagers. My 2 year old can out eat me already. The boys can easily consume 10 pancakes or 6 eggs each for an average breakfast. So keep them fed and fed often.

3) Nerf guns are cool. And I mean crazy cool. I had no idea they were so much fun. I highly recommend having a Nerf arsenal in your house if you have boys.

4) Work out. Boys will keep you on your toes. You'll need to be strong and in shape to climb up trees to help them down, to keep up with them at tball or hockey (see #1), to securely hold a flailing, angry toddler, and to have dance-offs (yes, boys like dancing too at least when they're younger!).

5) I'm still the girliest girl. But even girly girl mom's are awesome if they know most of the marvel superheroes. Learn those.

6) Star wars. If you don't like it, learn to. There are few things more precious to a boy than a light saber.

7) Anything can be turned into a flying object. Be careful of what's in reach.

I'm sure there are so many things that have become second nature to me now that I knew nothing of at first. But let me say... I'm so glad I have boys!

fun post katie! i am in the oposite place, having a girl! I grew up with brothers, Jeremy grew up with mostly brothers. We are both wondering what to do with a girl! I guess we will learn.

yeah my mom now has 4 teenage boys at home and the food part, yeah it gets worse! i am amazed at the amount of food they consume! mom says for the first time ever she goes for quanity versus quality in some food items. Cause it is consumed too fast for anyone to notice! gotta love it!

Oh so true! :) We haven't embarked on the nerf guns yet - though I'm sure they are super fun - because I am worried about having to keep track of all the "ammo."
